Assignment 5

I am in the process of deciding on a theme for assignment 5; Applying the techniques of narrative and illustration. I have several Ideas that need fleshing out. Following reading Annie Leibovitz at work I am tempted to set up a series of shots using juxta-position.

The suggestion of light is an interesting one but I can't think of enough ideas to come up with between 7 and 13 photos.

I was thinking of either France or the area of France in which I live as possible subjects, like something for a travel magazine. Something around my life might be interesting too. Myself as a subject would be interesting and maybe a little scary. I could explore my image of myself, or I could star in all the photos, in different disguises or locations!

I find the most difficult part of this process is always the working out of ideas. I am beginning to think that I am better served to put together my ideas first and then begin the process of photographing them than heading out with a camera. Also I find that there can be a large gap between my imagination and its realisation. I have yet to even begin to master all of the technical challenges that stand in my way, in fact it is only in trying to realise an image that I come across them.
